The MARQ series began as Garmin's answer to a question the sports watch market had largely ignored: could a device serious enough for expedition navigation also be finished to the standard of a dress watch. The Gen 2 Adventurer, arriving in 2022, sits at the generalist end of the lineup — where the Aviator and Captain are drawn tightly around a single discipline, the Adventurer is built to move between alpine ascents, trail navigation, and everyday wear without concession in any direction. At 46mm in grade-5 titanium it has presence on the wrist, and reviewers are consistent that smaller wrists will feel it. What they are equally consistent about is that it carries itself differently from a typical sports device — the etched two-tone compass bezel and domed AMOLED display read more as considered metalwork than consumer electronics. The leather and FKM rubber hybrid strap reinforces that; the leather face gives it the look of something worn to dinner, while the rubber underside handles the sweat and grime of the activity that prompted the purchase. A silicone strap is included in the box for when the separation feels unnecessary. The button interface is worth noting because it tends to surprise owners who arrive expecting to live on the touchscreen. The physical controls are unusually well-resolved for a watch of this type, and most long-term users quietly migrate to them by default.
