The tactix 8 is Garmin's tactical layer built over the Fenix 8 platform — same hardware foundation, but loaded with features drawn from military and field use: jumpmaster mode, stealth mode, a kill switch, night-vision-goggle compatibility, and the Applied Ballistics Ultralight solver for long-range shooting solutions. The built-in flashlight runs green or white, and in NVG mode the white channel drops out and the green becomes dimmable — a small detail that signals who this watch is actually designed for. At 51mm and 14.7mm thick it is a large watch that makes no apology for it, but titanium keeps the weight at 92 grams total, which is reasonable for what it carries. The AMOLED display earns its keep in low light, where it reads clearly without any of the squinting that solar-only panels can require. Battery life reaches 29 days in smartwatch mode — for anyone coming from a daily-charge device, the adjustment is significant, and the week-long GPS tracking modes extend that further for sustained field use.
