Stepping up in Limit's range
A slim dress watch designed for smaller wrists, the 6494 sits at 30mm across and just 7mm deep — flat enough to disappear beneath a cuff and light enough to go unnoticed after an hour of wear. The mother-of-pearl dial catches light differently depending on the angle, shifting between white and a faint iridescence, with black Arabic numerals and hands keeping legibility honest against that decorative surface. A gold-tone seconds hand ties the dial back to the case finish. The crocodile-textured strap reads as a considered touch at this end of the market, and the gold pin buckle matches the case rather than contrasting with it — a small thing that makes the watch read as a whole rather than as parts assembled.

Learn more about Limit
Limit has been sold in Britain since 1912, and for most of that time it has occupied one position without much deviation: the cheapest watch in the shop that is still worth owning.
It sits under Time Products, the same ownership as Sekonda and Accurist, which gives all three shared sourcing and distribution across British jewellers, catalogue retailers and department stores.
The range is deliberately conservative — plain dials, Roman or baton markers, gold-plated and stainless cases, leather and bracelet straps, mostly quartz with a small number of mechanical models. Pocket watches remain part of the catalogue, which few brands can still say.
It is a first watch, a school watch, a work watch and a gift watch, and it has been all four for over a century without pretending to be anything else.

Frequently asked questions, and things you should know about this watch
Will the glass scratch?
It can, over time. Mineral glass handles daily wear but will pick up fine scratches that sapphire would not.
Does it need a battery?
Yes. It is quartz, so expect a battery change every two to three years at a jeweller.
Is it a men's or women's watch?
Listed as women's.
