Stepping up in Accurist's range

Price range £60 to £199 across 13 Accurist watches in stock.

A compact 30mm stainless steel case keeps the proportions neat on the wrist, with a case depth of 8mm sitting close and unobtrusive. The blue mother-of-pearl dial carries diamond-cut baton indices and a date window at three o'clock, while sapphire crystal protects the surface from everyday wear. The 16mm stainless steel bracelet adjusts to fit a range of wrist sizes, fastening with a push-button deployant clasp. Water resistance to 50 metres adds quiet practicality.

Learn more about Accurist

Asher and Rebecca Loftus founded Accurist on St John Street in Clerkenwell in 1946, in the district that had been the centre of British watch and clockmaking for two centuries. The name was the proposition: accurate watches, affordably priced.

The family kept the company for sixty-eight years, and built its identity less through movements than through association with timekeeping as a national institution. In 1986 Accurist became the first company to sponsor the UK's Speaking Clock, a position it held until 2008 — for a generation of callers, the time was quite literally brought to you by Accurist.

The brand also sponsored the Millennium Countdown clock at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, ticking down the last thousand days to the year 2000 at the home of Greenwich Mean Time itself. Accurist watches went to Concorde pilots, and the brand appeared in advertising alongside the England football team.

Time Products acquired Accurist from the Loftus family in 2014, bringing it under the same ownership as Sekonda and Limit, and moved the business to Leicestershire.

The collection today is largely quartz — classic British dress styling, London-themed lines, and a price point that has always been the point.

Frequently asked questions, and things you should know about this watch

Can I swim with it?

Showering yes, swimming no. 50m covers splashes and brief immersion, but a swimming stroke generates well above the pressure that figure describes.

Water resistance explained

Will the glass scratch?

Unlikely. Sapphire is second only to diamond in hardness and shrugs off everyday marking.

Sapphire, mineral and acrylic compared

Does it need a battery?

Yes. It is quartz, so expect a battery change every two to three years at a jeweller.

Quartz, automatic and solar compared

What size strap does it take?

16mm. Any strap of that width will fit, and on most modern watches quick-release bars make the swap a two-minute job with no tools.

Is it a men's or women's watch?

Listed as women's.

Has the price changed recently?

It's currently at its highest recorded price. It's ranged between £74 and £99, today it's £99.
