The Luigi collection is Emporio Armani's exercise in showing the movement rather than concealing it — a skeleton format that commits fully to the idea, blacking out the case and dial furniture so the Miyota 8N24 becomes the whole visual subject. That movement runs at 21,600 vibrations per hour with a 42-hour reserve, sensible figures for a piece whose appeal is what you can see turning inside. At 43mm across and 51mm lug to lug it sits large, but the all-black execution — case, strap, buckle — draws the eye inward rather than outward, and 70 grams on the wrist is less than proportions like these usually feel. The crocodile-embossed leather keeps the presentation consistent with the case finish. Luminous infill on the hands is a practical detail that earns its place here: reading time against a moving skeleton background needs more help than a conventional dial does, and the white lume provides it.

Learn more about Emporio Armani

Giorgio Armani launched Emporio Armani in 1981 as a younger, more accessible line beneath the main label. Watches followed under licence, and since 2000 they have been produced by Fossil Group, which holds the manufacturing and distribution rights.

The watches are fashion accessories rather than horological objects, and the house does not claim otherwise. Movements are bought-in quartz and Japanese automatic calibres, cased in designs that follow the clothing line's aesthetic: muted palettes, clean dials, and a preference for restraint over ornament.

That restraint is the appeal. Where much of the licensed-fashion category reaches for size and shine, Emporio Armani generally does not, and the better references in the line are quietly proportioned watches at prices well under the Swiss entry point.

Frequently asked questions, and things you should know about this watch

Can I swim with it?

No. At 30m it will survive rain and handwashing, but not submersion of any kind.

Will the glass scratch?

It can, over time. Mineral glass handles daily wear but will pick up fine scratches that sapphire would not.

Does it need a battery?

No. It is automatic — the motion of your wrist winds it, and there is no cell to replace.

How long does it run for when it's not worn?

About 42 hours fully wound — enough to survive a night off the wrist, but not a full weekend.

What size strap does it take?

22mm. Any strap of that width will fit, and on most modern watches quick-release bars make the swap a two-minute job with no tools.

Will it fit my wrist?

Lug-to-lug is 51mm, which suits wrists from roughly 17.5cm (7 inches) upward.

Lug-to-lug decides fit more than case diameter does.

Is it a men's or women's watch?

Listed as men's.
