Graham Chronofighter Superlight 47mm Carbon Fibre
Ref. 04220000441
The Chronofighter Superlight is Graham's answer to a genuine problem: the original Chronofighter Oversize was a substantial steel case built around a left-handed trigger mechanism inspired by wartime pilot watch ergonomics, and while the concept was sound, the mass that came with it was not. The Superlight line rebuilt the proposition from the materials up, using carbon nanotube composite for the case and machined 3K carbon throughout — dial, bezel, even the buckle — to bring the whole thing in under 100 grams despite a 47mm footprint. That weight, or rather the absence of it, is the point the specification table cannot convey. The left-side layout, with the crown and the prominent fast-action chronograph trigger repositioned away from the back of the hand, means the case sits against the wrist without the usual pressure points a pusher arrangement creates at this scale. On the rubber strap — moulded with a Clous de Paris hobnail texture that ties it to the carbon aesthetic — the watch lands on the wrist with a lightness that makes the dial size feel considered rather than excessive. The G1747 calibre underneath is built on the Valjoux 7750 architecture, modified by Graham in collaboration with La Joux-Perret: it is a movement chosen because it is robust, well-understood and straightforward to service, which suits a watch designed to be worn hard.

Frequently asked questions, and things you should know about this watch
Can I swim with it?
Yes. At 100m it is rated for swimming and snorkelling, though not for diving.
Will the glass scratch?
Unlikely. Sapphire is second only to diamond in hardness and shrugs off everyday marking.
Does it need a battery?
No. It is automatic — the motion of your wrist winds it, and there is no cell to replace.
How long does it run for when it's not worn?
About 48 hours fully wound — enough to survive a night off the wrist, but not a full weekend.
Is it a men's or women's watch?
Listed as men's.
Cheapest place to buy
Mappin & Webb at £7,995, pre-owned. No UK retailer we track lists this reference new.
Is this available new?
Not from the UK retailers we track. This reference is listed as pre-owned only, at £7,995 from Mappin & Webb. A pre-owned watch has been worn, and is normally sold under the retailer’s own warranty rather than the manufacturer’s.
