The Twenty~4 began life in 1999 as a rectangular quartz watch — a deliberate pivot toward a younger, less formal audience than Patek had traditionally addressed. The 7300/1200R-001 marks the most significant change the line has seen since: the first round case in the collection's history, and the first to run an automatic movement. Both decisions together represent a considered repositioning, from a fashionable quartz piece toward something built to last generations in the same way Patek's complications are. At 36mm in solid rose gold it sits at a size that reads as contemporary without pushing toward sporty, and at just over 10mm thick it wears closer to the wrist than the weight — nearly 140 grams of gold bracelet and case — might suggest. The sunburst brown dial with applied Arabic numerals shifts warmly under changing light, and the double row of 160 brilliant-cut diamonds set into the bezel in a dentelle, or lace, pattern catches peripheral light in a way the dial does not compete with. Inside, the Calibre 26-330 S C carries a 21-carat gold rotor and the Patek Philippe Seal, which demands a standard of finishing and accuracy that goes beyond COSC — this is a movement built to be serviced and worn by whoever inherits it. The deployant clasp uses a four-catch safety system, which sounds like a minor detail until you consider that a bracelet this heavy benefits materially from a fastening with genuine redundancy.

Antoine Norbert de Patek, a Polish cavalry officer exiled after the November Uprising, founded a watch business in Geneva in 1839 with his countryman François Czapek. The partnership dissolved after six years, and in 1845 Patek took on the French watchmaker Adrien Philippe, inventor of the keyless winding crown. The firm became Patek Philippe in 1851.
That single invention mattered more than any other in the company's early history: it removed the winding key, and every modern watch descends from it. Queen Victoria bought a Patek pendant watch at the Great Exhibition the same year, establishing the royal patronage the house has traded on ever since.
The Stern family, dial manufacturers and long-standing suppliers, bought the company in 1932 during the Depression. Four generations later it remains in their hands — the last independent family-owned manufacture in Geneva, currently led by Thierry Stern.
Patek's reputation rests on complications: the Calibre 89 of 1989 carried thirty-three of them, and the Grandmaster Chime remains among the most complicated wristwatches made. The Nautilus, drawn by Gérald Genta in 1976 as a steel luxury sports watch, became an unlikely commercial phenomenon four decades after launch.
Production stays deliberately modest, in the tens of thousands annually, and every watch carries the Patek Philippe Seal, an in-house standard the company adopted in 2009 after abandoning the Geneva Seal as insufficiently strict.
