The Captain Cook name goes back to 1962, when Rado produced one of the earliest Swiss dive watches to carry serious depth credentials. This green-dialled version is a direct descendant of that original, keeping the broad cushion-influenced case and bold indices that defined the line while fitting a movement the 1962 watch could never have housed — an ETA-based automatic with a Nivachron hairspring, which resists magnetic fields in a way that matters to anyone who works near motors or machinery, and an 80-hour power reserve that covers a long weekend without winding. At 12.3mm thick for a watch rated to 300 metres, it sits notably flat for what it is. Most divers at this depth rating run considerably taller, and this one will pass under a cuff. The high-tech ceramic bezel insert takes scratches out of the equation in a way a steel insert simply cannot, and the sunburst green dial shifts between deep forest and something closer to jade depending on the angle — functional in low light with the lumed hands, but doing its best work in daylight.
