The Millesime is Raymond Weil's deliberate look backward — a collection built around vintage proportion and period dial architecture, applied to a self-winding movement and finished to a standard the brand reserves for its upper range. At 39.5mm and just over 10mm thick, it is a classically scaled dress watch, unobtrusive on the wrist and suited to a cuff in a way that larger modern cases simply are not. The dial is where the effort shows. Three distinct finishes occupy the same silver surface: a smooth hour track, a snailed minute track, and a vertically brushed centre — a level of differentiation that is genuinely rare at this scale and one that rewards a second look in changing light. The recessed seconds subdial at six reads as a considered detail rather than an afterthought. On the case, the satin-brushed bezel meets a polished bevel, the same logic of contrast carried outward. The sapphire caseback reveals the W-shaped rotor, Raymond Weil's own signature on the movement; the grey calfskin strap beneath the case carries the same motif stitched into the leather, which ties the whole thing together without announcing it.

Raymond Weil founded his company in Geneva in 1976, which was close to the worst possible moment: Swiss mechanical watchmaking was being dismantled by quartz, and established houses were closing. Starting one from nothing took a particular kind of nerve.
The company survived and stayed independent, which is rarer than it sounds — most Swiss names of comparable size were absorbed into Swatch Group, Richemont or LVMH. Raymond Weil is still owned and run by the founding family, with his grandson Elie Bernheim as chief executive.
Music runs through the brand deliberately rather than decoratively. The collections are named for it — Maestro, Toccata, Tango, Freelancer — and the company has built long partnerships with orchestras, conservatoires and record labels.
The watches sit where Swiss watchmaking is still attainable: slim dress pieces, chronographs and skeletonised automatics, mostly on Sellita and ETA calibres, with the Millesime line taking a more vintage-minded direction in recent years.
