The Toccata collection takes its name from the Italian musical form — pieces composed for touch, for the keyboard — and that etymological root runs through everything Raymond Weil has built in it: a watch conceived not as technical instrument but as something to be felt as well as seen. This all-steel version of the 24mm Toccata sits at the entry of the family, its siblings reaching toward two-tone and diamond-set bezels, while this one keeps the emphasis on the dial itself, where twelve laboratory-grown diamonds mark the hours against white mother-of-pearl. At 24mm and 5.1mm thick, it is a watch that disappears beneath a cuff and registers as jewellery on the wrist rather than as a separate object. The mother-of-pearl shifts with the angle of light in a way no printed dial does, and the diamonds — 0.04 carats total, set as indices — catch without overwhelming. The screwed caseback and 50-metre rating are quietly reassuring for something this fine-boned; this is not a watch that needs careful handling.

Raymond Weil founded his company in Geneva in 1976, which was close to the worst possible moment: Swiss mechanical watchmaking was being dismantled by quartz, and established houses were closing. Starting one from nothing took a particular kind of nerve.
The company survived and stayed independent, which is rarer than it sounds — most Swiss names of comparable size were absorbed into Swatch Group, Richemont or LVMH. Raymond Weil is still owned and run by the founding family, with his grandson Elie Bernheim as chief executive.
Music runs through the brand deliberately rather than decoratively. The collections are named for it — Maestro, Toccata, Tango, Freelancer — and the company has built long partnerships with orchestras, conservatoires and record labels.
The watches sit where Swiss watchmaking is still attainable: slim dress pieces, chronographs and skeletonised automatics, mostly on Sellita and ETA calibres, with the Millesime line taking a more vintage-minded direction in recent years.
