Stepping up in Swarovski's range
A 38mm stainless steel case, 7mm thick, houses a white silver sunray dial arranged around three chronograph sub-dials with index stick markers. The bezel is set with 50 Swarovski crystals, and the sapphire crystal sits above. Swiss quartz drives the movement. The silver-toned stainless steel bracelet closes with a deployment clasp and measures approximately 19cm in length. Water resistance is rated to 50 metres. The overall proportions sit neatly on the wrist without feeling heavy.

Learn more about Swarovski
Daniel Swarovski patented a machine for cutting crystal precisely and in volume, and in 1895 moved production to Wattens in the Tyrol for the hydroelectric power the valley could supply. The company has been there ever since, still family-controlled after five generations.
The watches are not a licence. Swarovski makes them itself, and they exist to display the thing the company actually produces: cut crystal, set into cases, bezels, bracelets and dials in quantities no watchmaker would attempt.
That makes them jewellery with a movement inside rather than watches with decoration added, and they are best judged on that basis. Quartz movements, generous stone-setting, and designs that change with the season.
Swarovski also supplies crystal to fashion, film and stage — which is why the same stones turn up on a Wattens-made watch and on a costume at the Metropolitan Opera.

Frequently asked questions, and things you should know about this watch
Can I swim with it?
Showering yes, swimming no. 50m covers splashes and brief immersion, but a swimming stroke generates well above the pressure that figure describes.
Water resistance explainedWill the glass scratch?
Unlikely. Sapphire is second only to diamond in hardness and shrugs off everyday marking.
Sapphire, mineral and acrylic comparedDoes it need a battery?
Yes. It is quartz, so expect a battery change every two to three years at a jeweller.
Quartz, automatic and solar comparedIs it a men's or women's watch?
Listed as women's, though at 38mm it sits in the range that suits anyone.
