The Seastar 1000 has always been Tissot's case for the idea that a serious diver's specification need not cost serious money, and this 40mm edition with the Powermatic 80 sharpens that argument. Where the 43mm sibling can feel assertive on a narrower wrist, this version lands at 46mm lug-to-lug — compact for the category — and carries the same 300m rating and 80-hour power reserve in a case that simply gets on with the day. The graded turquoise-to-black dial does something that flat colour cannot: it changes character as the light moves, reading almost green at one angle and closer to teal at another, with the fumé finish giving it depth rather than flatness. The bracelet mirrors the dial's two-sided approach — brushed outer links, polished centre — and tapers cleanly through to the clasp, sitting flush rather than splaying at the wrist. The Powermatic 80 movement, visible through the screw-down caseback, is ETA's Nivachron-sprung calibre running at 21,600vph. The Nivachron balance spring is notably resistant to magnetic fields and temperature swings, which matters more than it sounds on a watch that will actually see water.
