The 42mm case is finished in black-plated stainless steel at 11.5mm thick, sitting close to the wrist without bulk. A unidirectional rotating bezel in black and blue aluminium frames a sapphire crystal, beneath which the black dial carries a check-stamped texture, index hour markers, and luminous navy hands. Three sub-dials track 60 seconds, 30 minutes, and 12 hours of elapsed time, with a date display positioned at four o'clock. The navy check-embossed rubber strap, 20mm wide, fastens with a tang buckle.

Learn more about Burberry

Thomas Burberry opened a draper's shop in Basingstoke in 1856 and invented gabardine in 1879 — a breathable weatherproof fabric that clothed Antarctic expeditions and British officers in the trenches. The trench coat is his.

The watches are produced under licence and carry the house check on dials and straps, with Swiss quartz and automatic movements in generally restrained cases.

Among licensed fashion watches these are on the quieter end, drawing on the brand's genuine British heritage rather than on ornament.

Frequently asked questions, and things you should know about this watch

Can I swim with it?

Showering yes, swimming no. 50m covers splashes and brief immersion, but a swimming stroke generates well above the pressure that figure describes.

Water resistance explained

Will the glass scratch?

Unlikely. Sapphire is second only to diamond in hardness and shrugs off everyday marking.

Sapphire, mineral and acrylic compared

Does it need a battery?

Yes. It is quartz, so expect a battery change every two to three years at a jeweller.

Quartz, automatic and solar compared

What size strap does it take?

20mm. Any strap of that width will fit, and on most modern watches quick-release bars make the swap a two-minute job with no tools.

Is it a men's or women's watch?

Listed as men's.

Has the price changed recently?

It's currently at its lowest recorded price since we began tracking it. It's ranged between £382 and £383, today it's £382.
