Chopard Happy Sport
Ref. 275378-5001
Sits in Chopard’s upper tier here — more premium than three quarters of the Chopard watches we list, which start at £4,520.
Price range £4,520 to £18,500 across 29 Chopard watches in stock. The Happy Sport began in 1993 as something the watch industry had not quite seen: a serious mechanical piece that was also, unambiguously, playful. The five diamonds sealed inside the dial — free to drift across the guilloché silver surface as the wrist moves — were not an ornamental afterthought but the founding idea, and every version since has kept them. This automatic carries that premise in 18ct rose gold, with a sapphire cabochon set into the crown and an in-house calibre that runs to a 42-hour reserve. At 33mm the case is deliberately intimate, and the guilloché texture in the dial centre does what such work is meant to do: it shifts under light rather than sitting flat, giving the silver ground a depth that photographs never quite catch. The blue alligator strap is a considered contrast to the warmth of the case metal, and the rose gold tang buckle continues that pairing without announcing it.

Frequently asked questions, and things you should know about this watch
Can I swim with it?
No. At 30m it will survive rain and handwashing, but not submersion of any kind.
Will the glass scratch?
Unlikely. Sapphire is second only to diamond in hardness and shrugs off everyday marking.
Does it need a battery?
No. It is automatic — the motion of your wrist winds it, and there is no cell to replace.
How long does it run for when it's not worn?
About 42 hours fully wound — enough to survive a night off the wrist, but not a full weekend.
Is it a men's or women's watch?
Listed as women's.
Cheapest place to buy
Goldsmiths is the only UK retailer we track stocking this reference, so there is nothing to compare it against today.
Who are Goldsmiths?
Goldsmiths has been selling watches in Britain since 1778 and is part of the Watches of Switzerland Group, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange. They are an authorised dealer, so a watch comes with the manufacturer’s own warranty.
