Stepping up in Frederique Constant's range
The Manchette began as an archival design from Frederique Constant's 1980s catalogue, disappeared for the better part of two decades, and has returned as something that sits closer to a jewellery cuff than to conventional watchmaking. That lineage explains the proportions — a slim rectangular case, a dial of genuine black onyx rather than printed lacquer, and a seven-link bracelet embossed end-to-end in Clou de Paris hobnail texture, the same pattern pressed into the stone itself so the watch reads as a single continuous object around the wrist. At 70.2 grams on the wrist, it has enough presence to feel substantial without the weight of a full dress bracelet, and the butterfly clasp folds away invisibly so the texture runs unbroken from one end to the other. The onyx dial carries no indices, which suits a watch that is not really asking to be read at a glance.

Frequently asked questions, and things you should know about this watch
Can I swim with it?
No. At 30m it will survive rain and handwashing, but not submersion of any kind.
Will the glass scratch?
Unlikely. Sapphire is second only to diamond in hardness and shrugs off everyday marking.
Does it need a battery?
Yes. It is quartz, so expect a battery change every two to three years at a jeweller.
What size strap does it take?
20mm. Any strap of that width will fit, and on most modern watches quick-release bars make the swap a two-minute job with no tools.
Is it a men's or women's watch?
Listed as women's.
Cheapest place to buy
Goldsmiths is the only UK retailer we track stocking this reference, so there is nothing to compare it against today.
Who are Goldsmiths?
Goldsmiths has been selling watches in Britain since 1778 and is part of the Watches of Switzerland Group, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange. They are an authorised dealer, so a watch comes with the manufacturer’s own warranty.
