La Grande Classique traces its roots to the Agassiz model created in 1982 for Longines' 150th anniversary, and when the collection launched properly in 1992 it carried forward one particular design decision: the lugs are folded into the case itself rather than projecting from it, which is why a 24mm watch sits against the wrist the way it does — no hard corners, no gap, just a smooth curve of steel that disappears under a sleeve. At 4.30mm thick, the profile is genuinely slight, and the mother-of-pearl dial reads differently depending on what light reaches it: flat overhead light keeps it quiet and white, while angled light brings out the iridescence and makes the twelve Wesselton VS diamond hour markers worth noticing. The blackened hands give the dial just enough contrast to read cleanly without pulling attention away from the surface beneath them.
