Stepping up in Frederique Constant's range
The Moneta name comes from the Roman goddess on whose temple steps coins were minted — it is the root of the word money itself — and Frederique Constant has carried that etymology into the design, pressing a fine fluted pattern around the inner bezel ring that echoes the milled edge of a coin. It is a quiet detail, easy to miss on first glance and hard to ignore once seen. At 37mm the case sits close to the wrist without pressing against it, and the brown leather on a plain buckle keeps the whole thing unpretentious. The moonphase at six o'clock reads as a considered complication rather than a mechanical one — quartz keeps it accurate without the winding discipline a mechanical movement demands — and the blue dial gives the lunar disc enough depth to read clearly across different light conditions.

Frequently asked questions, and things you should know about this watch
Will the glass scratch?
Unlikely. Sapphire is second only to diamond in hardness and shrugs off everyday marking.
Does it need a battery?
No. It charges from light, and the cell behind that is designed to last a decade or more.
Is it a men's or women's watch?
Listed as men's, though at 37mm it sits in the range that suits anyone.
Cheapest place to buy
Goldsmiths is the only UK retailer we track stocking this reference, so there is nothing to compare it against today.
Who are Goldsmiths?
Goldsmiths has been selling watches in Britain since 1778 and is part of the Watches of Switzerland Group, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange. They are an authorised dealer, so a watch comes with the manufacturer’s own warranty.
