Stepping up in Girard-Perregaux's range
The Laureato began in 1975 as Girard-Perregaux's answer to the integrated-bracelet sports watch conversation that was reshaping Swiss watchmaking at the time. Where others reached for round cases, GP committed to an octagonal bezel sitting on a circular base — a shape that still reads as its own thing half a century on, neither borrowed nor repeated elsewhere. At 42mm the proportions are assured without being aggressive, and at 10.8mm thick it sits closer to the wrist than most integrated-bracelet watches of comparable size. The H-link bracelet alternates polished and satin-brushed surfaces in a way that mirrors the case finishing rather than just continuing it, and the triple-folding butterfly clasp adjusts without tools, which matters more over years of daily wear than it sounds at the point of purchase. The Clous de Paris dial — a tight hobnail grid — changes character entirely depending on whether the light hits it directly or from the side, holding the eye without demanding it. The caseback earns a look: the GP01800 running beneath it is built entirely in-house to a 28,800vph beat with a 54-hour minimum reserve, and the oscillating weight carries Côtes de Genève finishing that is visible in daily wear rather than saved for the watchmaker's bench.

Frequently asked questions, and things you should know about this watch
Can I swim with it?
Yes. At 100m it is rated for swimming and snorkelling, though not for diving.
Will the glass scratch?
Unlikely. Sapphire is second only to diamond in hardness and shrugs off everyday marking.
Does it need a battery?
No. It is automatic — the motion of your wrist winds it, and there is no cell to replace.
How long does it run for when it's not worn?
About 54 hours fully wound — enough to survive a night off the wrist, but not a full weekend.
Is it a men's or women's watch?
Listed as men's.
Cheapest place to buy
Goldsmiths is the only UK retailer we track stocking this reference, so there is nothing to compare it against today.
Who are Goldsmiths?
Goldsmiths has been selling watches in Britain since 1778 and is part of the Watches of Switzerland Group, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange. They are an authorised dealer, so a watch comes with the manufacturer’s own warranty.
