Stepping up in Girard-Perregaux's range
The Laureato was born in 1975 as Girard-Perregaux's answer to the integrated steel sports watch moment — the same current that produced the Royal Oak and the Nautilus, though the Laureato has always occupied quieter ground. The octagonal bezel set over a circular case is the original 1975 geometry, unchanged in proportion, and on the black dial the Clous de Paris hobnail pattern recalls the same decorative vocabulary that appeared on the very first reference. This is a revival that did not need to invent a heritage. At 42mm the case wears with genuine authority without bullying a medium wrist, and at under 11mm thick it sits flatter than the integrated-bracelet category tends to allow — flat enough that the transition from case to bracelet reads as one continuous form rather than a join. The black dial deepens further in low light and the Clous de Paris texture catches raking light in a way a plain sunburst would not. Through the exhibition caseback, the GP01800 is finished with Côtes de Genève and circular graining: the movement receives hand decoration appropriate to a far dressier watch, which is exactly the Laureato's position — a sports case carrying a movement made by people who think of themselves as makers of fine watches.
