The Laureato's octagonal bezel dates to 1975, and the integrated bracelet sports watch it frames has since appeared in steel, titanium and gold. This is the first time the case has been rendered entirely in ceramic — a material harder than most tool steels and essentially immune to daily scratching, yet light enough that 42mm carries rather easily. The skeletonisation and the ceramic work together to create something the earlier metals could not. Where a steel or gold Laureato shows you a dial, this one shows you the movement itself, darkened by galvanic treatment to read as a single black architecture. The octagonal bezel alternates satin and polished bevels, and the ceramic bracelet follows suit: satin outer faces, polished centre elements. At 11.4mm thick it is notably slim for a piece this open in construction, which means the movement's hand-finishing and variable inertia balance — details that survive scrutiny under a loupe — sit close to the wrist rather than perched above it. The titanium triple-folding clasp sits quietly behind the monochrome exterior, adding a small note of contrast at the wrist.

Frequently asked questions, and things you should know about this watch

Can I swim with it?

Yes. At 100m it is rated for swimming and snorkelling, though not for diving.

Will the glass scratch?

Unlikely. Sapphire is second only to diamond in hardness and shrugs off everyday marking.

Does it need a battery?

No. It is automatic — the motion of your wrist winds it, and there is no cell to replace.

How long does it run for when it's not worn?

About 54 hours fully wound — enough to survive a night off the wrist, but not a full weekend.

Will it fit my wrist?

Lug-to-lug is 49.1mm, which suits wrists from roughly 16.5cm (6½ inches) upward.

Lug-to-lug decides fit more than case diameter does.

Is it a men's or women's watch?

Listed as men's.

Cheapest place to buy

Goldsmiths is the only UK retailer we track stocking this reference, so there is nothing to compare it against today.

Who are Goldsmiths?

Goldsmiths has been selling watches in Britain since 1778 and is part of the Watches of Switzerland Group, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange. They are an authorised dealer, so a watch comes with the manufacturer’s own warranty.
