Stepping up in the same colour and case shape
The Khaki Field traces its roots to the utilitarian timepieces Hamilton supplied to American military personnel through two world wars — watches built to be read fast, in poor light, under pressure. That inheritance is visible in the Arabic numerals and the plain hierarchy of the dial, but the moss green sunray finish here does something the originals never attempted: the surface shifts between a muted, almost flat khaki and something richer whenever the light catches it at an angle, the snailing on the hour ring adding a quiet layer of texture beneath the hands. At 38mm with an 11.5mm case height, it sits close to the wrist without the bulk that field watches often carry — a proportion that makes it genuinely unisex rather than nominally so, and one that passes under a shirt cuff without catching. The H-10 inside is Hamilton's own calibre, wound from the ETA base they know well but specified with a Nivachron balance spring for better resistance to the magnetic fields that trouble most mechanical movements in everyday use. The 80-hour power reserve means a watch left on the nightstand Friday evening is still running Monday morning. The see-through caseback rewards the curious owner: the rotor and movement are visible without removing anything, and it is a movement worth looking at.

Frequently asked questions, and things you should know about this watch
Can I swim with it?
Yes. At 100m it is rated for swimming and snorkelling, though not for diving.
Will the glass scratch?
Unlikely. Sapphire is second only to diamond in hardness and shrugs off everyday marking.
Does it need a battery?
No. It is automatic — the motion of your wrist winds it, and there is no cell to replace.
How long does it run for when it's not worn?
About 80 hours fully wound — enough to sit off the wrist over a weekend and still be running.
What size strap does it take?
20mm. Any strap of that width will fit, and on most modern watches quick-release bars make the swap a two-minute job with no tools.
Will it fit my wrist?
Lug-to-lug is 47mm, which suits wrists from roughly 16cm (6¼ inches) upward.
Lug-to-lug decides fit more than case diameter does.
Is it a men's or women's watch?
Listed as unisex, and at this size it suits any wrist that takes the dimensions.
Cheapest place to buy
Goldsmiths is the only UK retailer we track stocking this reference, so there is nothing to compare it against today.
Who are Goldsmiths?
Goldsmiths has been selling watches in Britain since 1778 and is part of the Watches of Switzerland Group, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange. They are an authorised dealer, so a watch comes with the manufacturer’s own warranty.
