The X-Wind carries the first drift angle calculator ever built into a wristwatch — a slide-rule arrangement that lets a pilot compute crosswind correction without reaching for anything else. Hamilton's aviation work goes back to timing the first U.S. airmail runs in the 1910s, and the X-Wind is where that heritage concentrates, translated into a tool with a specific aeronautical function rather than a broadly aviation-themed aesthetic. This green-dial release, dubbed Northern Lights, sits alongside a separate 44mm chronograph variant; this is the cleaner three-hand Day Date, the daily-wear piece of the pair. The crown sits on the left of the case, destro-style, keeping it clear of the knuckle during wear and giving the right flank over to the bezel controls, which are guarded against accidental operation. The green Type-B dial reads in a direct, unambiguous way — Arabic numerals, bold sword hands, the day-date window at 9 o'clock — with the kind of layout that was drawn for legibility first. At 45mm the watch is large but wears well because the 12.8mm profile keeps it from stacking off the wrist. The H-30 movement beneath the display caseback runs on a Nivachron balance spring, which resists magnetic fields and temperature variation more reliably than traditional alloys. The 80-hour reserve comes partly from running at 21,600 vph rather than the more common 28,800 — a deliberate choice that extends runtime at a modest cost to the sweep of the seconds hand, a trade most owners will find sensible.
