The Conquest line has run since 1954, built on the idea that a watch worn at the edge of sport should not look as though it was designed there. This 34mm example carries that brief intact: the sunray green dial shifts perceptibly as the light moves across it, and the 14 Top Wesselton diamonds set into the hour markers — 0.035 carats in total — catch rather than announce themselves. The movement underneath does more than the case lets on. The L888 calibre beats with a silicon balance-spring, which makes it effectively immune to the magnetic fields that degrade a conventional hairspring over time, and it runs for 72 hours unwound. The screw-in crown and the display caseback are a pairing worth noting: you get the security of a sealed crown alongside a clear view of the rotor, which is an unusual combination at this size.
