The HydroConquest launched in 2007 as Longines' answer to serious dive watch requirements, and this two-tone variant — yellow PVD on the bezel, crown, and bracelet centre links against the stainless body — sits at an interesting point within the range. It reads closer to a sports-dress watch than a pure tool, and is clearly intended to. That yellow PVD treatment extends to the snowflake hands, which are lume-filled and pick up the gold tone under light in a way that ties the dial together rather than leaving it looking half-finished. The sunray blue dial, with Arabic numerals at six, nine, and twelve breaking up the index hour markers, has enough going on to reward attention in different light without becoming busy. At 41mm the fit on an average wrist is comfortable and the 21mm lug width means aftermarket straps are easy to source if the bracelet — fitted with an integrated diving extension — ever feels like too much. The L888 runs at 25,200 vibrations per hour with a 72-hour power reserve, which means a watch left off on Friday evening is still running Monday morning. Longines produces this calibre under its own designation, and the three-day reserve is genuinely useful for the kind of weekend-to-weekend wearing this watch is built around.
