The Baker sits in the part of Marc Jacobs's range where the brand is most itself — the hour markers spell out M-A-R-C in rainbow colours, which is either exactly what you want or the reason you look elsewhere. For those who want it, the effect is deliberate and consistent: the rose gold case and bracelet set a warm, dressed-up tone, and the lettered indices cut against that with something more playful. At 36mm the watch wears neatly without disappearing, and the deployment clasp on the link bracelet gives a more considered fit than the pin buckles that turn up at this end of the market.

Marc Jacobs founded his label in New York in 1984 and spent sixteen years as creative director at Louis Vuitton alongside it, which is where much of the brand's international standing came from.
The watches are licensed. Fossil held the agreement from 2005, launching the main line that autumn and Marc by Marc Jacobs the year after. In 2019 the licence transferred to Bedrock Manufacturing, founded by Fossil's own co-founder Tom Kartsotis.
They are fashion watches and make no pretence otherwise: quartz movements, design led by the label's aesthetic rather than by horology, priced accordingly. If you want the look of the house on your wrist that is exactly what these deliver.
