Maurice Lacroix Aikon Automatic Date 35mm Ladies Watch Black Mother Of Pearl

Ref. AI6006-SS002-370-1

A 35mm stainless steel case, 10 to 11mm thick, gives this Aikon a neat, wearable proportion on the wrist. The black mother-of-pearl dial carries eight diamond hour markers and rhodium-plated hands treated with Super-LumiNova. A date window sits at three o'clock. Both the front crystal and the exhibition caseback are sapphire. The five-row bracelet fastens with a butterfly deployment clasp, and the whole watch is water resistant to 200 metres. Inside runs the ML115 automatic, offering a 38-hour power reserve at 28,800vph.

Learn more about Maurice Lacroix

Maurice Lacroix began in 1975 as a brand of the Desco von Schulthess group, a Zurich trading house that had been assembling watches at Saignelégier in the Jura since 1961. The name was invented rather than inherited — there was no Maurice Lacroix — and the brand was built for export markets from the start.

Its serious watchmaking credentials date from 1989, when the company acquired the case and component manufacturer Queloz, giving it in-house production capability that most brands at its price point lacked. Maurice Lacroix went on to develop its own calibres, the ML series, from 2006.

The Masterpiece collection is where the technical ambition sits. The Masterpiece Régulateur, the Calendrier Rétrograde, and particularly the Masterpiece Gravity — which exposes a silicon escapement suspended in a large dial aperture — established the house as capable of genuine complication work rather than assembly.

The Aikon, launched in 2016, changed the company commercially. It descends from the Calypso of 1990 and uses an integrated bracelet with six articulated arms flanking the bezel, offering the steel luxury sports watch format at a fraction of the usual entry price. It is now the brand's core product.

Maurice Lacroix remains based at Saignelégier and produces both quartz and mechanical lines.

Frequently asked questions, and things you should know about this watch

Can I swim with it?

Yes. At 200m it is rated for swimming, snorkelling and recreational diving.

Water resistance explained

Will the glass scratch?

Unlikely. Sapphire is second only to diamond in hardness and shrugs off everyday marking.

Sapphire, mineral and acrylic compared

Does it need a battery?

No. It is automatic — the motion of your wrist winds it, and there is no cell to replace.

Quartz, automatic and solar compared

How long does it run for when it's not worn?

About 38 hours fully wound — so it will usually stop if you leave it off overnight.

What size strap does it take?

20mm. Any strap of that width will fit, and on most modern watches quick-release bars make the swap a two-minute job with no tools.

Is it a men's or women's watch?

Listed as women's, though at 35mm it sits in the range that suits anyone.

Cheapest place to buy

Both Mappin & Webb and Goldsmiths list it at £2,150, so choose on delivery and warranty rather than price.
