The Catlin is Michael Kors' dressed-up core — a line built around the idea that a fashion watch should read as jewellery first without losing legibility. The black dial earns its keep here: against all that gold PVD, it creates the contrast that lets the crystal-set bezel and inner dial ring catch the light without the whole thing collapsing into noise. At 38mm it sits with genuine presence on the wrist, yet 7mm of thickness means it disappears under a cuff in a way that bulkier fashion pieces often will not. The deployant clasp and link bracelet feel more considered than a standard fold-over, and resizing by removing individual pin-secured links means the fit can be dialled in precisely rather than left approximate.

Learn more about Michael Kors

Michael Kors founded his label in New York in 1981 and built it on accessible American luxury. The watches are produced under licence by Fossil Group and have been among the highest-volume fashion watches sold worldwide.

The design leans decorative: gold and rose gold plating, pavé crystal settings, oversized chronograph subdials that are frequently non-functional, and bracelets that echo the jewellery line. Movements are quartz.

These are styling-led accessories, priced accordingly, and they are honest about what they are.

Frequently asked questions, and things you should know about this watch

Can I swim with it?

Showering yes, swimming no. 50m covers splashes and brief immersion, but a swimming stroke generates well above the pressure that figure describes.

Will the glass scratch?

It can, over time. Mineral glass handles daily wear but will pick up fine scratches that sapphire would not.

Does it need a battery?

Yes. It is quartz, so expect a battery change every two to three years at a jeweller.

What size strap does it take?

18mm. Any strap of that width will fit, and on most modern watches quick-release bars make the swap a two-minute job with no tools.

Is it a men's or women's watch?

Listed as women's, though at 38mm it sits in the range that suits anyone.
