The Antarctic's story begins with polar expeditions — specifically Operation Deep Freeze, the US Navy's first South Pole push in the mid-1950s, for which Nivada Grenchen supplied watches. White-dial versions appeared in the brand's own advertising from that period, which means this dial colour is not a styling decision but a reference back to the watch's working history. The revival came about after a vintage Super Antarctic found its way onto Instagram in 2021 and, unusually, that moment of attention led directly to a re-edition rather than just a mood board. At 38mm with a 45mm lug-to-lug span, the case sits well clear of the oversized era without retreating to something that reads as deliberately small. The double-domed sapphire gives the dial a slight depth that flat crystals do not, and the Super-Green lume on a white ground is notably legible — white dials often sacrifice night visibility for daytime crispness, but not here. Brushed flanks with polished lug tops is a considered finishing split that keeps the case from reading as either purely tool watch or purely dressed up.
