Stepping up in Olivia Burton's range
The Classic Finery line is Olivia Burton's answer to the kind of watch that disappears into an outfit — deliberately small, deliberately quiet, designed to read as an accessory rather than an instrument. At 20mm this sits closer to a bracelet charm than a traditional case, and the all-gold sunray dial with its clean baton markers makes no attempt to be anything other than ornamental. The coin-edge texture on the bezel and the fine mesh bracelet are what give it presence at that scale: both catch the light differently, so the watch reads as considered rather than flat. The sliding fold-over clasp adjusts along the bracelet without tools, which matters more than it sounds on a piece this small — sizing is immediate, and it sits flush against the wrist without bulk.

Learn more about Olivia Burton
Lesa Bennett and Jemma Fennings started Olivia Burton in London in 2012, coming from fashion rather than watchmaking and treating the watch as an accessory to be designed rather than a instrument to be engineered.
That showed in the product: illustrated dials, floral and bee motifs, applied three-dimensional details, mesh and leather straps in soft colours. The bee became the signature, and the brand found a large audience among buyers who wanted something with a point of view at under £200.
Movado Group acquired the company in 2017, placing it alongside Movado, Ebel, Concord and MVMT. Production and distribution run through Movado; the design identity has stayed recognisably its own.
The watches are quartz and the appeal is the artwork, not the movement — which is a fair description of what the brand set out to do in the first place.

Frequently asked questions, and things you should know about this watch
Can I swim with it?
No. At 30m it will survive rain and handwashing, but not submersion of any kind.
Will the glass scratch?
It can, over time. Mineral glass handles daily wear but will pick up fine scratches that sapphire would not.
Does it need a battery?
Yes. It is quartz, so expect a battery change every two to three years at a jeweller.
What size strap does it take?
6mm. Any strap of that width will fit, and on most modern watches quick-release bars make the swap a two-minute job with no tools.
Is it a men's or women's watch?
Listed as women's.
Cheapest place to buy
Both Goldsmiths and F.Hinds list it at £139, so choose on delivery and warranty rather than price.
Who are Goldsmiths?
Goldsmiths has been selling watches in Britain since 1778 and is part of the Watches of Switzerland Group, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange. They are an authorised dealer, so a watch comes with the manufacturer’s own warranty.
