Stepping up in Oris's range
Shin Sirachai Arunrugstichai is a Thai marine conservationist and photojournalist whose work centres on dugongs — the slow, gentle sea mammals that local communities call payoon, or the lady of the sea. Oris and their Thai partner Trocadero built this watch to support that work, with production capped at 250 pieces and a design that maps directly onto the animal and its habitat: the graduated green dial takes its colour from the waters around Koh Libong, the grey relief bezel echoes dugong skin, and the solid caseback carries an engraving of a mother and calf. The movement underneath is the Calibre 400, which Oris developed entirely in-house and which represents a genuine step up from what the Aquis carried before it. The silicon escapement resists magnetism without needing a Faraday cage, accuracy sits at -3/+5 seconds per day — territory that would clear a chronometer standard — and the recommended service interval is ten years rather than the usual five. A 120-hour power reserve means a long weekend away without winding it on return. At 43.5mm with a case that reads chunky rather than slim, this wears as a full-sized diver and suits a larger wrist accordingly. The Quick Strap Change system makes moving to a rubber strap straightforward for time in the water, and the push-button clasp includes a wetsuit extension for exactly that use.
