Zenith Defy Extreme Glacier 45mm
Ref. 95.9201.9004/25.I001
Sits in Zenith’s upper tier here — more premium than three quarters of the Zenith watches we list, which start at £7,000.
Price range £7,000 to £28,000 across 43 Zenith watches in stock. The Defy Extreme Glacier arrived in 2023 as a run of just 50 pieces, each one built around a bezel and pusher guards carved from pale blue chalcedony — a semi-precious stone chosen for its resemblance to glacial ice, and one that varies naturally in colour and structure between examples, so no two watches are identical in the way they catch the light. What the movement does is genuinely unusual. The El Primero 9004 runs two entirely separate regulating organs: one oscillating at 5 Hz for ordinary timekeeping, a second running at 50 Hz — ten times faster — dedicated solely to the chronograph. That second escapement is what allows the central chronograph hand to complete a full rotation every second and measure elapsed time to the hundredth. The frosted sapphire dial exists to make this legible from above, and the sapphire exhibition caseback allows the twin-escapement architecture to be inspected from behind. Titanium keeps the 45mm case manageable on the wrist, and the quick-change system means the bracelet can be swapped for either of the two included straps — one rubber, one Velcro — without tools, which matters on a watch genuinely rated for 200 metres.
