Stepping up in Chopard's range
The Happy Sport collection has its roots in 1993, when Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele proposed something then considered heretical for a fine watch: diamonds that were free to move, loose within a sealed sapphire chamber rather than set rigid into metal. That spirit of deliberate playfulness reaches its most literal form here, where five mobile charms — a sun, a moon, and three stars — drift across a deep blue dial flecked with gold, each one diamond-set and answering to the smallest movement of the wrist. At 30mm the case is compact but not slight, with the two-tone construction — Lucent Steel against an 18-carat rose gold bezel and crown — keeping the proportions from reading too cool or too precious. The crown is set with a sapphire cabochon, a detail that rewards a closer look weeks in. Beneath the dial, Chopard's in-house calibre runs the movement, which matters in a watch where the gem work could easily have excused a bought-in engine.
