Stepping up in Girard-Perregaux's range
The Laureato traces to 1975, when Girard-Perregaux entered the integrated-bracelet sports watch conversation that Audemars and Patek had opened earlier that decade. The octagonal bezel was its answer to the Royal Oak's porthole; half a century on it remains the collection's defining feature, and this chronograph represents the format at its most purposeful. What makes the current execution interesting is how it handles the dial. The Clous de Paris hobnail engraving — the same guilloché technique borrowed from goldsmithing — catches raking light in a way a plain sunburst finish cannot, and against it the three blue subdials read as a considered contrast rather than decoration. The integrated bracelet in 904L steel, alternating polished H-links with brushed surfaces, continues the dial's two-finish logic down to the wrist and keeps the whole piece coherent. The GP03300 is made entirely in-house at 419 parts and 63 jewels, which is significant in a market where many chronograph movements at this level are still based on bought-in ebauches. At 46 hours of reserve and 28,800 vibrations per hour it is a composed movement rather than a spectacular one, but it is entirely Girard-Perregaux's own, and the closed caseback is the one thing that keeps it hidden from those who would appreciate that most.

Frequently asked questions, and things you should know about this watch
Can I swim with it?
Yes. At 100m it is rated for swimming and snorkelling, though not for diving.
Will the glass scratch?
Unlikely. Sapphire is second only to diamond in hardness and shrugs off everyday marking.
Does it need a battery?
No. It is automatic — the motion of your wrist winds it, and there is no cell to replace.
How long does it run for when it's not worn?
About 46 hours fully wound — enough to survive a night off the wrist, but not a full weekend.
Is it a men's or women's watch?
Listed as men's.
Cheapest place to buy
Goldsmiths is the only UK retailer we track stocking this reference, so there is nothing to compare it against today.
Who are Goldsmiths?
Goldsmiths has been selling watches in Britain since 1778 and is part of the Watches of Switzerland Group, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange. They are an authorised dealer, so a watch comes with the manufacturer’s own warranty.
