Stepping up in Glashütte Original's range
The Serenade Luna sits within a Glashütte Original lineage built around the idea that a serious horological object and an overtly feminine one are not in tension. The moonphase complication here is not decorative shorthand — the calibre 35-14 is engineered to require correction only once every 122 years, which puts it among the most accurate implementations of the display in production watchmaking. That movement is finished in the Glashütte manner: three-quarter plate, stripes, blued screws, a silicon hairspring — and it was developed specifically to work within a case this small without compromising what the manufactory considers acceptable finishing. At 32.5mm with a lug-to-lug of just over 38mm and a profile under 9mm, it is genuinely compact rather than merely described as such, and sits flush rather than bridging the wrist. The mother-of-pearl dial is made in-house; the 20 diamond hour markers keep it restrained rather than busy, and the moonphase at six sits within a starry surround that the retailer describes well — it uses its own mother-of-pearl to distinguish the lunar disc from the rest of the dial without making the complication shout. The blued seconds hand carries an infinity-loop tip that links it visually to the Lady Serenade, a small detail that will register after a few weeks of ownership. The winding crown is capped with a rose-cut diamond — easy to overlook in photographs, apparent immediately in hand.

Learn more about Glashütte Original
Glashütte Original is the direct corporate descendant of the East German state watchmaking industry. When the Soviet administration expropriated Glashütte's private manufacturers after the Second World War — A. Lange & Söhne among them — it consolidated them into a single enterprise, VEB Glashütter Uhrenbetriebe, which produced watches for the Eastern Bloc for four decades.
After reunification the enterprise was privatised, and in 1994 it took the name Glashütte Original. It therefore inherits both the archives and the tooling of the pre-war houses and the industrial capacity built under the GDR.
That inheritance shows in vertical integration unusual even at the high end. The company makes its own movements, and its own dials, through the Pforzheim dial manufactory it acquired in 2006 — a capability most houses buy in.
The house signatures are German: three-quarter plates, duplex swan-neck fine adjustment, hand-engraved balance cocks, and skeletonised rotors in double-G form. The Panorama Date, a large date display where both discs sit on one plane so no dividing line interrupts the numerals, is its most distinctive complication and a deliberate improvement on the standard big-date module.
The Senator, Sixties, and Seventies collections cover classical and retro-industrial ground respectively. Swatch Group acquired the company in 2000.

Frequently asked questions, and things you should know about this watch
Can I swim with it?
No. At 30m it will survive rain and handwashing, but not submersion of any kind.
Will the glass scratch?
Unlikely. Sapphire is second only to diamond in hardness and shrugs off everyday marking.
Does it need a battery?
No. It is automatic — the motion of your wrist winds it, and there is no cell to replace.
How long does it run for when it's not worn?
About 60 hours fully wound — enough to survive a night off the wrist, but not a full weekend.
What size strap does it take?
16mm. Any strap of that width will fit, and on most modern watches quick-release bars make the swap a two-minute job with no tools.
Will it fit my wrist?
Lug-to-lug is 38.12mm, which suits wrists from roughly 15cm (6 inches) upward.
Lug-to-lug decides fit more than case diameter does.
Is it a men's or women's watch?
Listed as women's.
Cheapest place to buy
Goldsmiths is the only UK retailer we track stocking this reference, so there is nothing to compare it against today.
Who are Goldsmiths?
Goldsmiths has been selling watches in Britain since 1778 and is part of the Watches of Switzerland Group, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange. They are an authorised dealer, so a watch comes with the manufacturer’s own warranty.
