Stepping up in the same colour and case shape
The Khaki Field draws its shape and purpose directly from the field watches Hamilton supplied to American military personnel across the twentieth century — utility instruments with nothing ornamental and everything legible. At 38mm it sits at the original scale those watches occupied, before the industry decided that field watches needed to be large, and the matt-finished steel keeps the same attitude: nothing here is trying to catch light or attract attention. The khaki green dial with its old radium-style Super-LumiNova on the Arabic numerals is the considered part. In flat daylight it reads as subdued, almost monochrome against the khaki NATO strap and its brown leather loops; at an angle or in low light it becomes a different object, the numerals separating clearly from the ground in the way a real instrument needs them to. The ETA F06.105 includes an end-of-life indicator, which on a quartz you will actually use — the battery does not simply die, it flags first.

Frequently asked questions, and things you should know about this watch
Can I swim with it?
Showering yes, swimming no. 50m covers splashes and brief immersion, but a swimming stroke generates well above the pressure that figure describes.
Will the glass scratch?
Unlikely. Sapphire is second only to diamond in hardness and shrugs off everyday marking.
Does it need a battery?
Yes. It is quartz, so expect a battery change every two to three years at a jeweller.
What size strap does it take?
20mm. Any strap of that width will fit, and on most modern watches quick-release bars make the swap a two-minute job with no tools.
Will it fit my wrist?
Lug-to-lug is 46mm, which suits wrists from roughly 16cm (6¼ inches) upward.
Lug-to-lug decides fit more than case diameter does.
Is it a men's or women's watch?
Listed as unisex, and at this size it suits any wrist that takes the dimensions.
Cheapest place to buy
Goldsmiths is the only UK retailer we track stocking this reference, so there is nothing to compare it against today.
Who are Goldsmiths?
Goldsmiths has been selling watches in Britain since 1778 and is part of the Watches of Switzerland Group, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange. They are an authorised dealer, so a watch comes with the manufacturer’s own warranty.
