This example follows that logic faithfully: press the button at the crown and the front cover opens to reveal the white chapter ring and Roman numerals; depress the crown further and both lids fly open simultaneously, exposing the skeletonised 17-jewel movement on one side and the dial on the other. In the hand it reads as a deliberate piece of occasion. The engraved gold-plated case is ornate in the Victorian Albert tradition, and the matching chain is the correct way to carry it — anchored to a waistcoat or lapel, the chain and watch read as a coordinated set rather than an accessory bolted to a convenient fixing point. The skeleton aperture in the dial means the gear train is visible even when the lids are closed, so the watch is never entirely at rest.
