Longines introduced the Elegant Collection in 2014 as an exercise in restraint — a line built around the idea that small-cased dress watches deserve a complication that earns its place. The moonphase here sits at six o'clock against a blue sky background, which coordinates quietly with the dark blue leather strap and keeps the white dial from reading as plain. At 30mm with a 36mm lug-to-lug span, this sits genuinely small on the wrist, suited to narrower wrists where a larger case would overhang. The 8.5mm depth is unremarkable in isolation but keeps the profile low enough to clear a cuff without catching. Roman numerals and silvered hands read clearly under the multi-layered anti-reflective sapphire, which handles indoor light particularly well. The battery end-of-life indicator is a practical addition — a quartz moonphase is difficult to reset if it runs flat unnoticed, and the L296.2 flags it before that becomes a problem.
