Omega De Ville Co-Axial Master Chronometer 41mm Mens Watch Silver

Ref. O43453412002001

The De Ville Prestige arrived in 1994 as Omega's answer to a straightforward question: what does a dress watch look like when a manufacture applies serious movement engineering to a classical brief? This third generation of the collection brings Master Chronometer certification to the answer, meaning the 8802 movement inside has been tested by METAS to function accurately inside a magnetic field of 15,000 gauss — a standard that matters rather more than its rating in water. At 41mm in solid 18K yellow gold and only 10.8mm deep, it sits flatter against the wrist than the solid case suggests, and the 47.89mm lug-to-lug span keeps it cooperative under a cuff. The domed silver dial carries a silk-like texture that shifts between warm and pale depending on the angle, with alternating Roman numerals and cabochon indices in polished yellow gold catching light independently of the background. No lume competes with any of this — the dial is purely metallic throughout, as a watch of this intention should be. The sapphire caseback reveals the 8802 in a rhodium-plated finish with arabesque Geneva waves, and the 18K yellow gold tang buckle extends the case material through to the fastening on the brown alligator strap — a detail that reads as considered rather than incidental once you notice it.

Learn more about Omega

Louis Brandt began assembling pocket watches in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1848. His sons moved production to Biel in 1880 and, in 1894, released a calibre whose parts were fully interchangeable and which could be serviced by any watchmaker with standard tools. They named it Omega. The movement was successful enough that the company took its name.

Omega's history is bound up with measurement in public. It became official timekeeper of the Olympic Games in 1932 and has held the role for most Games since, which drove genuine engineering: photo-finish cameras, touchpads in swimming pools, and the timing systems that made hundredths of a second meaningful.

NASA qualified the Speedmaster for manned spaceflight in 1965 after testing chronographs from several manufacturers to destruction, and it was on Buzz Aldrin's wrist on the lunar surface in 1969. The watch has never been substantially redesigned.

The Seamaster line dates to 1948 and covers everything from dress watches to saturation diving instruments. Omega's technical position strengthened considerably after 1999 with the adoption of George Daniels' co-axial escapement, the first genuinely new escapement to reach series production in two centuries, and more recently through Master Chronometer certification testing resistance to magnetic fields at 15,000 gauss.

The company has been part of the Swatch Group since its formation.

Frequently asked questions, and things you should know about this watch

Can I swim with it?

No. At 30m it will survive rain and handwashing, but not submersion of any kind.

Will the glass scratch?

Unlikely. Sapphire is second only to diamond in hardness and shrugs off everyday marking.

Does it need a battery?

No. It is automatic — the motion of your wrist winds it, and there is no cell to replace.

How long does it run for when it's not worn?

About 55 hours fully wound — enough to survive a night off the wrist, but not a full weekend.

What size strap does it take?

19mm. Any strap of that width will fit, and on most modern watches quick-release bars make the swap a two-minute job with no tools.

Will it fit my wrist?

Lug-to-lug is 47.89mm, which suits wrists from roughly 16.5cm (6½ inches) upward.

Lug-to-lug decides fit more than case diameter does.

Is it a men's or women's watch?

Listed as men's.
