Police Underlined Black Leather Strap Watch - W44144

Ref. PEWJF0005703

The Underlined collection is Police's running argument that a men's watch should read as hardware first and decoration second. At 46mm across and 14mm deep, this is unambiguously a large watch — one that sits proud of the wrist and fills the space between cuff and hand without apology. The vertically brushed grey dial earns its keep by giving the multi-register chronograph layout somewhere to breathe. Sub-dials, day and date all sit in a face that reads clearly without becoming busy, and the brushed finish keeps the whole thing from catching light in the wrong way. Against that, the raw-grain brown leather strap adds some roughness of texture that suits the industrial character of the case better than a polished alternative would. At 90 grams it has presence in the hand, though the buckle clasp means fitting is straightforward regardless.

Learn more about Police

Police began in Italy in 1983 as an eyewear brand under the Vogue and later De Rigo groups, and built its identity on sunglasses worn by film and music figures through the 1980s and 1990s.

The watches are licensed rather than made in-house, produced under agreement by a specialist watch manufacturer and sold through jewellers and department stores alongside the eyewear and fragrance.

Design follows the label: heavy cases, dark PVD finishes, exposed screws and industrial detailing, skull and heraldic motifs, and a masculine, deliberately loud aesthetic that changes with the season rather than the decade.

Movements are quartz, occasionally multi-function, and prices sit in the fashion-watch bracket.

Taken as an accessory that matches a particular look, the range does what it sets out to. It is not a watchmaking company and does not present itself as one.

Frequently asked questions, and things you should know about this watch

Can I swim with it?

Showering yes, swimming no. 50m covers splashes and brief immersion, but a swimming stroke generates well above the pressure that figure describes.

Will the glass scratch?

It can, over time. Mineral glass handles daily wear but will pick up fine scratches that sapphire would not.

Does it need a battery?

Yes. It is quartz, so expect a battery change every two to three years at a jeweller.

What size strap does it take?

24mm. Any strap of that width will fit, and on most modern watches quick-release bars make the swap a two-minute job with no tools.

Is it a men's or women's watch?

Listed as men's.
