Rado Captain Cook 43mm Mens
Ref. R32127152
Sits in Rado’s upper tier here — more premium than three quarters of the Rado watches we list, which start at £1,050.
Price range £1,050 to £5,150 across 41 Rado watches in stock. The Captain Cook traces its lineage to a 1962 diver that Rado produced quietly and without fanfare, only for it to become one of the more sought-after references in vintage circles decades later. This version takes that heritage and builds it entirely from high-tech ceramic — not just the case but the bracelet too — which is an unusual commitment to the material at this depth rating and scale. Ceramic at 43mm has a different quality in the hand than steel: lighter than it looks, utterly indifferent to scratching, and with a matte black surface that absorbs light rather than bouncing it back. The skeletonised dial turns the watch inward, framing the movement behind black-tinted sapphire, and the power reserve indicator gives the owner something useful to read at a glance — 80 hours is enough reserve that checking it daily is never urgent, but it earns its place on the dial. On the wrist, 157 grams is heavier than ceramic's reputation might suggest, though the monobloc construction distributes that weight evenly. The Nivachron hairspring in the R734 is the detail worth knowing. Most movements use silicon or traditional alloys to handle magnetic fields; Nivachron is a titanium-niobium alloy developed specifically for antimagnetic stability, and it does the job without the brittleness that silicon can introduce. For a watch rated this deep, where robustness throughout the movement matters as much as the case, it is a considered choice rather than a marketing footnote.
