Seiko Prospex 1965 Revival Diver's 3-day 300m in Scuba Blue

The 62MAS of 1965 was Japan's first dive watch — worn on the wrists of Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition members between 1966 and 1969 — and the SPB451J1 draws its proportions, its crown position and its barrel-case silhouette directly from that original. What the revival adds is substantial: the water resistance rating has climbed from 200 metres on earlier revivals to 300 metres now, and the case has come down to 13mm, a thinness that feels incongruous for a watch rated this deep and means it actually disappears beneath a shirt cuff in a way that professional divers rarely manage. The sunray-finished blue dial shifts between navy and something closer to cobalt depending on the angle, and the bezel insert matches it closely enough that the watch reads as a single colour from a distance. At 40mm with a 46.4mm lug-to-lug, the proportions sit on the larger side of neutral for most wrists; the lugs have some elevation off the wrist, so the case presents with a slight presence rather than hugging flat. The 6R55 is the detail worth understanding. Seiko rates it to a 72-hour power reserve, specifies the mainspring in their own Spron 510 alloy — developed in-house to resist corrosion and fatigue — and builds in Etachron regulation, which allows fine-tuning without disassembly. It is a movement built to last and to be serviced simply, which is exactly what belongs inside a watch meant for serious use.
