The Speedtimer name goes back to the 1960s, and this solar-charged re-entry into that lineage takes its colour cue from the cars of the 1980s and 90s — the era now collected under the French term Youngtimers, when sports cars wore pale greens and soft pastels before the palette went dark. The mint dial against black subdials follows the inversion Seiko calls Panda, a layout the SSC813 made popular, and it is convincing here: the colour is restrained enough to read as considered rather than novelty. At 39mm the case sits neatly on a range of wrists without the self-consciousness of something sized to make a point. The V192 movement runs on any available light and holds a six-month reserve at full charge, which means it effectively disappears as a maintenance concern — no winding, no battery anxiety, and no interaction required for most of a year if the watch comes off the wrist.
