The Seastar 2000 Professional had an image problem its specifications never deserved: at 46mm and 16.25mm thick, it was a demanding wear for most wrists. This 44mm version addresses that directly, trimming the diameter and shaving the case to 15.29mm while retaining the full ISO 6425-certified 600m rating and helium escape valve that make it a genuine saturation diving instrument rather than a notional one. Nothing was sacrificed for the smaller footprint. The case redesign goes beyond the dimensions. A new lug curvature presses the case closer to the wrist, a notched case edge tightens the profile visually, and sandblasting from the crown guard through to the lug ends gives the steel a workmanlike quality that reads as purposeful rather than simply utilitarian. The orange gradient dial is a strong choice here — it catches light differently as the angle shifts, and against the ceramic bezel it keeps the watch readable from a distance. At 130 grams on the rubber strap, it sits closer and more securely than the steel bracelet option would allow, which on a watch this purposeful is the right call. The Powermatic 80 runs at 21,600 vibrations per hour, a lower frequency than most automatic movements, and that is where the 80-hour reserve comes from — three days unworn without losing time, which for a watch that may see intermittent use between dives is a quietly practical advantage.
