The Blast collection is Ulysse Nardin's argument that high horology and material science need not be strangers. Carbonium — an aeronautical-grade carbon composite developed for aerospace applications — arrives here infused with rose gold, giving the case a warmth that raw carbon refuses. The result is a watch that reads precious without reading heavy, and the 43mm diameter carries more easily on the wrist than that figure suggests. The dial is an architecture lesson. A skeletonised rectangle sits across an X-shaped cage, and the UN-371 beneath it is visible through both faces of the watch. That movement earns its exposure: 173 parts, a silicon escapement resistant to magnetism and wear, and a 96-hour power reserve from a hand-wound calibre built entirely in-house. The blackened hands with their luminous fill give the eye somewhere to land amid all the openwork — without them, reading the time in low light would ask more than it should.
