The Palazzo Empire collection is built around Versace's most recognisable emblem: the Medusa head rendered here in three dimensions at the centre of the dial, where it dominates rather than decorates. The surrounding black dial throws the figure into relief, and the blue calfskin strap sets the whole thing apart from the house's more conventionally gilt-and-silver dress pieces. At 39mm it is generous for a women's watch, and it wears accordingly — present on the wrist without being borrowed from a men's range. The deployant clasp keeps the leather flat against the skin, which at 60 grams total weight matters more than it might on something heavier.

Gianni Versace founded his house in Milan in 1978 and built it on maximalism — bold prints, Greek key borders, and the Medusa head he took from the floor of the Roman ruins he played in as a child. Donatella Versace took over after his death in 1997.
