The Octo Roma is the watch that resolved what had long been Bvlgari's central design tension: how to make something unmistakably Italian in spirit while submitting to Swiss rigour in execution. The answer was an octagonal case that reads as round at a glance but reveals its geometry the moment light catches an edge — a form the house has refined across the collection's history until the architecture feels inevitable rather than contrived. This green variant adds a Clous de Paris hobnail texture to the dial, a motif borrowed from high jewellery and pocket watchmaking that catches and breaks light differently from any flat surface. At 9.15mm thick for a 41mm steel case, it wears closer to the wrist than the visual weight of the case suggests, and the integrated bracelet — mixing satin and polished surfaces across the same link — keeps the geometric language of the case going all the way to the clasp. The BVL 191 inside is Bvlgari's own manufacture calibre, running at 28,800 vibrations per hour with a 42-hour reserve, and the watch ships with a matching green rubber strap on a quick-release fitting, so the choice between dressed and casual is genuinely a thirty-second decision rather than a trip to a watchmaker.

Sotirio Bulgari was a silversmith from a village in Epirus who arrived in Rome and opened a shop on Via Sistina in 1884, later moving to the Via Condotti address the company still occupies. The Latinised V in the logo is a deliberate reference to classical Rome, and the house has drawn on Roman architecture and coinage ever since.
Two designs define it. The Serpenti, a coiled snake bracelet watch that first appeared in the 1940s, is the piece most associated with the name. The Bvlgari Bvlgari of 1975, with the brand name doubled around the bezel in the manner of a Roman coin inscription, began as a limited run for clients and became a permanent line.
Watchmaking became serious in 2000, when Bvlgari bought Gérald Genta and Daniel Roth and with them a genuine complications capability. Since 2014 the Octo Finissimo has set a series of world records for thinness across different complications — tourbillon, minute repeater, automatic, chronograph — which is not the sort of thing a jeweller was expected to be doing.
