Diesel built its name on watches that make no attempt to be subtle, and the Spiked Chronograph sits squarely in that tradition. At 49mm it is a deliberate choice, worn because its presence on the wrist is the point of it. The grey sunray dial catches directional light in a way a flat grey cannot, giving the face some depth despite the monochrome palette. The gunmetal bracelet and case read as a single unbroken piece of hardware rather than two components assembled together, which suits the scale — at this size, contrast between case and bracelet would only add visual noise.

Renzo Rosso founded Diesel in Molvena in 1978, building a denim brand on deliberate irreverence. The watches, produced under licence by Fossil Group, carry that attitude directly.
Where most fashion watches aim for restraint, Diesel does the opposite: oversized cases frequently past 50mm, blacked-out finishes, exposed screws, multiple crowns, and dials that prioritise visual impact over legibility. The Mr Daddy models stack four time zones onto a single dial.
Whether that appeals is a matter of taste, but the design intent is consistent and unmistakable, which is more than can be said for much of the category.
