The vívomove Sport sits at the accessible end of Garmin's hybrid line, trading the metal casework of the vívomove Style for a resin case that brings the whole thing down to 33.8 grams — light enough that it disappears on the wrist in a way its siblings do not. The defining trick is the display: in its resting state the dial reads as a plain black analogue watch, hands ticking across a face with no visible screen at all. A wrist raise or tap brings a monochrome OLED to life beneath the dial, the bright panel silhouetting the mechanical hands rather than competing with them. Low-light legibility works the same way — there is no lume compound, but the illuminated display does the job. Battery life runs to five days in full smart mode, then an additional week with the hands continuing to tell time after the connected features shut down.

Gary Burrell and Min Kao founded Garmin in 1989 — the name is a contraction of their first names — to build GPS receivers for aviation and marine use. Consumer navigation came later, and wearables later still.
Unlike most names in this directory that arrived from outside watchmaking, Garmin is not a licence. It designs and builds its own devices, writes its own software and runs its own satellite-positioning stack, which is why its watches do things Swiss houses do not attempt.

Battery life is the differentiator. Where most smartwatches are measured in days, Garmin measures in weeks, and in solar-charging models sometimes in months.
These are instruments rather than heirlooms, and they date the way electronics date — but for anyone who actually trains, they are among the few watches on the market that earn their place.
