The Venu 3S is Garmin's direct follow-up to the Venu 2S, refined around a brief that the earlier model pointed toward but did not fully answer: a health-tracking device small enough to wear all day without announcing itself as sports equipment. The gold-toned steel bezel over a polymer chassis is a considered choice — it keeps the 40g weight where it is while reading as jewellery on the wrist. At 41mm it sits at the smaller end of the smartwatch category, which is part of the point for a watch worn continuously through sleep tracking and nap detection as well as workouts. The always-on AMOLED display reads as a black dial in low-power mode, and the Gorilla Glass 3 lens handles the incidental knocks that come with that kind of daily contact. The dusty pink silicone strap uses a standard 18mm quick-release bar, so replacement is straightforward. Ten days between charges in smartwatch mode means the health data — heart rate, sleep scoring, Body Battery monitoring, multi-system GPS — is genuinely continuous rather than rationed.

Learn more about Garmin
Gary Burrell and Min Kao founded Garmin in 1989 — the name is a contraction of their first names — to build GPS receivers for aviation and marine use. Consumer navigation came later, and wearables later still.
Unlike most names in this directory that arrived from outside watchmaking, Garmin is not a licence. It designs and builds its own devices, writes its own software and runs its own satellite-positioning stack, which is why its watches do things Swiss houses do not attempt.
The fenix line established the template in 2012: a rugged multi-sport GPS watch with mapping, altimeter and week-long battery life. Forerunner covers running, Instinct the hard-wearing end, Venu the smartwatch end, and the MARQ line puts the same electronics in titanium and sapphire at Swiss prices.
Battery life is the differentiator. Where most smartwatches are measured in days, Garmin measures in weeks, and in solar-charging models sometimes in months.
These are instruments rather than heirlooms, and they date the way electronics date — but for anyone who actually trains, they are among the few watches on the market that earn their place.

Frequently asked questions, and things you should know about this watch
Can I swim with it?
Showering yes, swimming no. 50m covers splashes and brief immersion, but a swimming stroke generates well above the pressure that figure describes.
Water resistance explainedWill the glass scratch?
It can, over time. Mineral glass handles daily wear but will pick up fine scratches that sapphire would not.
Sapphire, mineral and acrylic comparedDoes it need a battery?
Yes. It is quartz, so expect a battery change every two to three years at a jeweller.
Quartz, automatic and solar comparedWhat size strap does it take?
18mm. Any strap of that width will fit, and on most modern watches quick-release bars make the swap a two-minute job with no tools.
Is it a men's or women's watch?
Listed as women's.
Has the price changed recently?
It's currently at its lowest recorded price since we began tracking it. It's ranged between £350 and £400, today it's £350.
