The vívomove Trend sits in an interesting position within Garmin's hybrid range: launched in 2023, it takes the clean analog premise of the older vívomove 3 and builds in Qi wireless charging compatibility — meaning any standard charging pad will do, rather than a proprietary cable. That is a quietly significant convenience for a watch worn daily. At 43.3 grams on the wrist, the polymer construction keeps things genuinely light, and the cream gold PVD bezel against the French grey case gives it a warmer, more considered look than the Sport below it. The hidden LCD is the neat trick of the whole Trend line: the dial reads as a conventional analog face until you raise your wrist, at which point the hands step aside to reveal the health and notification data underneath, then return to position. Five days on a charge in full smartwatch mode, with a sixth available if you strip it back to hands-only timekeeping.

Gary Burrell and Min Kao founded Garmin in 1989 — the name is a contraction of their first names — to build GPS receivers for aviation and marine use. Consumer navigation came later, and wearables later still.
Unlike most names in this directory that arrived from outside watchmaking, Garmin is not a licence. It designs and builds its own devices, writes its own software and runs its own satellite-positioning stack, which is why its watches do things Swiss houses do not attempt.

These are instruments rather than heirlooms, and they date the way electronics date — but for anyone who actually trains, they are among the few watches on the market that earn their place.
